Education on Alderney

Alderney has two schools: St. Anne's School, which teaches children from the age of 4 to 16 continuously, and Ormer House, a modest preparatory school, which caters for children from the age of 2 years up to 13 years. Additional educational establishments may be found in Guernsey and Jersey. Adult education classes are also available.

The school leaving age in Alderney is 16 years, but those pupils who do not wish to take the GCSE examinations are permitted to leave at the age of 15.

Further education - 'A' levels, tertiary and vocational education - is provided in Guernsey.

St Annes School

Situated on a lovely site overlooking Braye Harbour, Saint Anne's School is an 'all age, all ability' mixed school. The school teaches children from 4 years to 16 years offering a full range of GCSE subjects. It is equipped with excellent facilities, including the latest computer communications technology.

More detailed information and a prospectus may be obtained from the Headteacher. A handbook, which provides more information, is also available.

Ormer House

Alderney also has a thriving co-educational preparatory school, Ormer House, which caters for children from the age of 2 years up to 13 years.

In order to enable the children to reach their full potential in every subject, class sizes are limited to an average of 12 pupils. The school curriculum is based firmly around the core subjects and includes all subjects normally taught at a Preparatory School. A wide range of extra-curricular activities is offered. Both very bright children and those with special learning difficulties are well catered for at Ormer House. The school has an excellent record of success.

More detailed information may be obtained from the school.
