States of Alderney Water Board
The States of Alderney Water Board is responsible for the supply of potable water to some 1300 households and commercial users on the island.
Operating as a commercial trading board, the profits of the Water Board are reinvested into the system in order to safeguard the island's water resources and the 5-strong team works around the clock to maintain the highest levels of quality. Stringent quality control is carried out daily and water samples are sent off island for analysis at regular intervals.
In July the Water Board also agreed to introduce further consumer testing which will not be introduced in the UK until the year 2003.
The water supply is generated from a number of streams and bore holes and is stored at the Battery Quarry and Corblets Quarry. Alderney currently has a water shortage problem.
The States of Alderney Water Board has now launched its own online payment facility which will enable you to settle your water rates directly by credit or debit card. This is the first on-line payment service set up by the States of Alderney and if this pilot scheme proves successful, such facilities may also be extended to other departments.
