Battle's Over, a Nation's Tribute

Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2018


The Nation's tribute 'Battle's Over' is being co-ordinated by the Pageantmaster Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR in order to commemorate, with a unique series of events, the day 100 years ago when the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War.


Alderney is participating in this tribute and our programme of events is as follows:-


1030hrs           A lone piper will play and lead the British Legion Alderney Branch

 Together with representatives from the 30th Signals Regiment from the car park in Ollivier Street to the church.


1045hrs           Ecumenical Church Service

Following the service the piper will again play and lead the British Legion and 30th Signals Regiment from the church to the Cenotaph in Victoria Street.


1200hrs           Ceremony at the Cenotaph

The Last Post will be played, followed by the Reveille and a minute's silence and afterwards a brief service at the memorial for Sapper Onions

This will be followed by a Vin d'Honneur (by invitation) in the Anne French Room at the Island Hall at approximately 1230hrs.


1800hrs           Beacon will be lit on the Butes and the President will lead the ceremony

The Last post will be played, followed by the Revaille and a minute's silence.

The Piper will play "Battle's O'er"

The Town Crier will make his "Cry for Peace around the world"


1905hrs           St Anne's Church Bell-ringers will "Ring out for peace"
