Press Release - Code of Conduct changes proposed

For immediate release: 14th November 2018

The Policy and Finance Committee have approved a proposition that the States of Alderney should require States Members to declare their worldwide interests in future. Currently, States Members must declare their interest across the Bailiwick. Policy and Finance Chairman James Dent said "In an increasingly connected global economy, and with the States of Alderney working with international interests including e-gambling companies and tidal energy developers, it is important that there is transparency about all interests of States Members."

The Committee also agreed to the preparation of draft revisions to the Code of Conduct to be considered by the States in the future, recognising that international governance standards have changed. These revisions will take into account the States of Guernsey Code of Conduct and the best practice guidance produced by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
