Press Release - New Committee for Tourism and Economic Development announced

The Policy and Finance Committee have approved the establishment of a Committee for Tourism and Economic Development. Its aim will be to generate ideas to support the island's economy and take them through to implementation. The focus will be on medium and long term propositions that will support economic growth.

The Chairman of the Policy and Finance Committee, James Dent, said "The whole Committee welcomed the work to develop a mandate and structure for the new Committee. This brings together our work to support tourism, economic growth and transport infrastructure into a single place." He paid tribute to Mr Matt Birmingham who had led the process and to the Chamber of Commerce for their input.

Three States Members will sit on the Committee, one of whom will be the Committee's Chairman. The President and Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce will also sit on the Committee initially with the option to co-opt additional members to the Committee. The Director of Business Development, Mr Chris Brock will carry out the executive and administrative functions of the Committee.
