Death of Raymond Berry

Statement from the President

Death of Raymond Berry

Statement from William Tate, President of the States of Alderney.

The States of Alderney and the island community have been extremely saddened to hear of the death this week of past States Member Raymond Berry.

A very popular man, widely referred to as a true gentleman, Ray stood on the States for the years 2011 to 2014 inclusive.  During that time he served on all three main committees, Policy and Finance Committee, General Services Committee and Building and Development Control Committee, as well as on the Tourism and Business Development Committee.

Prior to his time on the States, Ray worked in the Public Works Department of the States of Alderney, joining as an apprentice in 1965 and completing approximately 44 years, before retiring in 2009. As a painter he was known to 'paint a mean white line!'.

His loss will be deeply felt by his close family and friends and the wider community.
