Covid-19 Protection - A reminder not to drop our guard

Alderney breathed a sigh of relief when lockdown restraints were eased on June 20 with social distancing relaxed, businesses reopening and no queues outside food shops.

"The States of Alderney would like to remind islanders not to drop their guard against coronavirus and not to forget the importance of enhanced hygiene" said a spokesman. "No one here would deliberately ignore the guidance but it's easy to forget and we would like to remind everyone; companies, retail outlets, event organisers, members of the public, to remember to apply enhanced hygiene practices"

Alderney has not had a known single positive case of Covid-19 since the pandemic began and although the island is now open to Bailiwick visitors, everyone arriving from outside the Bailiwick must self-isolate for 14 days, except under exceptional circumstances.
To help protect the island, everyone from public to all businesses are reminded that hygiene guidance remains applicable:

  • Wash hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Sneeze/cough into elbow, not hands
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Maintain personal distance where possible
  • Regularly clean high-touch points such as door handles, pens, telephones, work surfaces etc.
  • Follow the Catch it, Kill it, Bin it plan. Keep tissues with you to catch a cough or sneeze, disposing of them in a waste bin and then killing any remaining germs by washing your hands
  • Anyone experiencing symptoms, no matter how mild, should contact the Clinical Helpline on 756938 or 756969.

Venues hire and public places:

  • Ensure regular cleaning is taking place
  • If anyone appears to be unwell, ask them to go home
  • Nobody under compulsory isolation order can attend - anyone suspected of non-compliance should be asked to leave
  • Keep rooms well ventilated where possible

Those who are self-isolating may wish to display a notice that the household is self-isolating.
