Emergency Planning Training

The Emergency Services and officers from the States of Alderney were once again delighted to welcome the States of Guernsey Emergency Planning Team to the island on Wednesday 15th June in order to run through emergency response arrangements on the island.

A one-day training event was held at the Island Hall to provide officers from the emergency services and supporting agencies with an opportunity to fine tune their skills. This included a reminder of the UK's Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles regarding working together to save lives. Staff used an imaginary scenario for a series of tabletop exercises to test the responding agencies emergency plans. The training day builds on the learning from the previous event held last December and forms part of the island's commitment to regular training in emergency planning.

Attendees included representatives from Police, Fire & Ambulance, Hospital, Airport, States Works, the Connaught with support from officers from the States of Alderney civil service.

Kath Jones, Chief Executive, States of Alderney explained:

"This important training provides an ideal opportunity for emergency services and supporting responding agencies to practice their skills in a safe environment, helping to ensure that Alderney has a joined-up response to an island emergency.  She would like to express her thanks to all those who attended, as well as the Guernsey Emergency Planning Team who delivered the training."
