Alderney's ferry services to resume in a spirit of co-operation

Alderney's fast ferry services between the Island and Guernsey are expected to resume at the end of next week - and in a spirit of co-operation typical of local seamanship, there will be two ferries plying their trade between the islands.

Ashlin - The Salty Blonde suffered engine failure soon after beginning its service as the Island's ferry service and a second vessel, operated by Alderney Ferry Services, suffered a similar fate soon afterwards.

However, repairs for The Salty Blonde are nearing completion and she is expected to resume service on Friday, June 24th.

Meanwhile, the owners of The Salty Blonde have provided financial support to Alderney Ferry Services, which needed to purchase a new vessel and both are expected to be plying their trade in tandem.

And as the famous Alderney Week celebrations in August approach, there's a further example of Channel Islands seafarers working together. Buz White's Access Challenger will join the flotilla to bring visitors to the Island for the festivities.

Tracey Farquhar-Beck, Group Director for The Salty Blonde, said the ferry was expected back in Alderney waters next week and should resume sailings from Friday.

She added: "We have been working away behind the scenes with the new kids on the block, Alderney Ferry Services. We are delighted to collaborate with them and we're thrilled that we could help finance this exciting endeavour for Charlie and Dan and get them back in the water.

"The movement of people is essential to the prosperity of Alderney. Alderney Ferry Services and The Salty Blonde have a prime objective to work closely together to offer a reliable ferry service with a varied timetable to both residents and visitors alike."

Ian Carter, Acting Chairman of Alderney's Policy & Finance Committee, said: "This is welcome good news for Alderney and it's especially pleasing that the operators of The Salty Blonde have been working closely with Alderney Ferry Services in a spirit of co-operation that can only benefit our Island. We look forward to the resumption of services next week and congratulate both companies on weathering this 'storm' with such a positive attitude."
