Press Release

Arrangements for the weekend and the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - 14.09.2022

The States of Alderney has formally passed an Ordinance declaring Monday September 19th 2022, the day of the State Funeral, as a public holiday to allow Islanders to mourn with the UK the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE and Mrs Cripwell will attend the State Funeral in London, representing the people of the Bailiwick.

Other forthcoming events include a visit to Alderney by the Lieutenant-Governor on the morning of Friday September 16th when he will sign the Book of Condolence at the Island Hall and thank those who have worked tirelessly to organise the Island's responses following the death of Her Majesty and the ensuing proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III. Those present will include States of Alderney President William Tate, Mrs Tate, the Island's Civil Service, the Island Band and the Bell Ringers.

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday September 17th at 11.30am at St Anne's Church. The service will involve members of all the Island's churches and is an opportunity to come together to remember and give thanks for the life of Her Majesty.

In line with the United Kingdom, a one-minute silence will be observed across the Bailiwick on Sunday September 18th at 8pm when Islanders are invited to join in the national moment of reflection to mourn and reflect on the life and legacy of Her Majesty.

A Book of Condolence has been placed in the Members Room of The Island Hall, open between 08:45 and 16:30 on weekdays until further notice.

Updates and further information will be available online at www.gov.gg and www.alderney.gov.gg.
