Second round of public consultation announced for amended Alderney Biodiversity Strategy draft

Previously extended public consultation for the proposed Alderney Biodiversity Strategy (ABS) ends on Sunday (September 25th) following which a new version of the draft guidance will be published next week. All public feedback to date is being compiled and collated and an updated document will be published on Wednesday, September 28th.

This will be followed by a second drop-in for members of the public to discuss the amended proposals on October 5th (Anne French Room, Island Hall, 2-6.00pm).

Feedback from the October 5th drop-in will be considered by the General Services Committee (GSC) on November 1st.

Local people had earlier asked for more opportunity to discuss the proposals and provide input, to which GSC readily agreed. A second drop-in was arranged in September but this was postponed following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Feedback to date indicates a section of the community has formed the impression that the States of Alderney is proposing a law when in fact the draft strategy simply sets out out ways in which the Island can protect, preserve and enhance its highly prized natural environment and resources.

The draft ABS as it currently stands can be viewed at alderney.gov.gg/public-consultation. In addition to the drop-in, comments, queries and ideas can be addressed to consultation.alderney@gov.gg or supplied to the Island Hall general office in written form.
