2007 - Queens Diamond Wedding Anniversary

On the 20th November, 2007, Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will be celebrating 60 years of marriage. To mark this momentous occasion, the States of Alderney, in conjunction with the Royal Mint, have issued 4 stunning designs, which also form part of a twelve coin Channel Island Collection.

A Family Wedding Portrait

This detailed design depicts a family wedding portrait. At the centre of the design, the Princess is pictured in her beautiful flowing dress, standing next to her new husband surrounded by family members dressed in their finery.

Wedding Procession

This design features the exquisite Irish State Coach. The traditional horse drawn carriage, normally used to transport the Queen from Buckingham Palace to Parliament, was used on the Wedding Day to take King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen` Mother) from Westminster Abbey.

Elizabeth and Philip departing for their Honeymoon

This coin shows the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh leaving for their honeymoon. The Duke is in full military dress and the Duchess is wearing a stunning hat and suit.

A recent portrait of the Queen and Prince Philip

The final Alderney coin shows a recent image of the Queen and Prince Philip in a relaxed pose marking their unity 60 years on. All of the above coins have been designed by the Royal Mint Engraving Studio. The coins are available in £5 Silver and £5 Cupro- Nickel denominations only. A further three coins have also been issued in an 18 coin Commonwealth Countries Collection.

The Wedding Day

This detailed design depicts the newly married Royal couple leaving Westminster Abbey on their Wedding Day.

The Birth of Charles

This design commemorates the birth of Charles and shows the Queen and Prince Philip with baby Charles.

The Golden Wedding Anniversary

This more recent design shows an official portrait of the Queen and Prince Philip on their Golden Wedding Anniversary. All of the above coins have been designed by David Cornell. The coins will be available in £5 Silver only. The coins are hexagonal in shape, with the six sides representing the six decades of their marriage. The intermittent smooth and milled edge also includes sixty mills, again reflecting their sixty years together. This is the first time that the Royal Mint has issued a crown in the hexagonal shape. The obverse of the coins feature the approved portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Ian Rank- Broadley, FRBS, surrounded by the inscription Elizabeth II Alderney 2007.
