1999/2000 - Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Coin

1999 marked the 125th anniversary of his birth and the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The year 2000 was also the 100th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill becoming an MP and his 60th anniversary of becoming Prime Minister. Obverse: Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Reverse: The portrait by British artist Tony Hansard captures the familiar profile of this famous wartime leader. The Silver Proof coin is edge-lettered with the words spoken by Churchill as part of his famous VE Day Speech in May 1945 "and our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today"…
