2004 - 60th Anniversary of D-Day Landings
In the early hours of 6th June 1944, the first troops set sail from the many departure points around the coast of Britain, heading for Piccadilly Circus, a position in the middle of the English Channel so named because of the anticipated heavy traffic. Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, the five Normandy beaches spanning a 50-mile front between Le Havre and Cherbourg, were the allotted targets for the massive force. Obverse: Designed by Mike Guilfoyle, the £5 coins are available in Cupro-nickel. Reverse: Raphael Maklouf` elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.![]() |
