Item l Chief Pleas
The Greffier reported that no Chief Pleas had been received.Item ll Alderney Works Department – Replacement Sewer Cart
It was noted that the description of the tanker should have read “1000 gallons” and not “1000 litres”.The States resolved to accept the quotation from Fuller Tankers Ltd for the supply of the vehicle, description as revised above, for a sum of £62,185 and to vote a total sum not exceeding £64,000.
(Proposed by Mr Walden and seconded by Mr Sargent.)
(Approved by a majority all in favour except Messrs Allen and Kelly who voted against.)
Item Ill The Smoking (Prohibition in Public Places and Workplaces) (Alderney) Law, 2008
An amendment to withdraw this item was proposed by Mr Tugby and seconded by Mr Beaman.(Amendment failed. All against the amendment except for Messrs Tugby and Beaman who voted in favour.)
The two propositions were then voted on.
The States resoled to request the President to request the Law Officers to submit the Smoking (Prohibition in Public Places and Workplaces) (Alderney) Law, 2008 for Royal Assent without further delay and without further amendment.
(Proposed by Mr Willmott and seconded by Mr Williams.)
(Approved by a majority. For proposition one: Messrs Willmott, Walden Tugby, Sargent and Beaman. Mr Llewellyn abstained. For proposition two: Messrs Williams, Allen, Kelly and Mrs Bennett.)
Item lV The Alderney Road Traffic and Public Highways (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations, 2008
The States resolve that "The Alderney Road Traffic and Public Highways (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations, 2008" not be annulled.(Proposed by Mr Walden and seconded by Mr Kelly.)
(Approved by a majority all in favour except Messrs Tugby, Allen and Beaman who voted against.)
Item V Questions & Reports
The President reported on a recent visit by the Bishop of Winchester. During an informal meeting the matter of States funding for the upkeep of St Anne’s Church was discussed and whilst hopeful that repairs would continue, the Bishop was mindful of the current financial climate.The President advised that he had attended a lunch with the Lieutenant Governor to meet the Rt. Hon. Christopher Geidt the new Private Secretary to The Queen. The President had offered him an extended invitation to visit Alderney during his next trip to the Bailiwick.
The President thanked His Excellency and Lady Malbon for officially opening the new Tourist Information and Alderney Wildlife Trust Centre today and for spending time with the Trustees and volunteers who run the Centre.
