NEW ELECTORAL ROLL FOR ALDERNEY

ALL QUALIFIED RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO REGISTER

A new register of electors came into force on 15th October 2008. It replaces the previous register, will remain in force for the next 36 months and will be used for all elections held during that time. If you did not complete one of the blue forms sent out recently to all households your name is not on the new register. Inclusion in the register is vital to your right to vote. This applies to everyone - even if your name was on the previous register.

Your name may still be added to the register but until it is you will be unable to vote. It is important to act now if you wish to vote at the elections/plebiscite to be held later this year.

I am not able to add any person"s name to the register to be used at any election/plebiscite between the first day appointed for nominations for that election/plebiscite and the day after the election/plebiscite is held.

PLEASE NOTE:

The last day on which I will be able to add any person"s name to the register to be used for the Presidential election to be held on 22nd November 2008 is: 3rd NOVEMBER 2008.

The last day on which I will be able to add any person"s name to the register to be used for the Ordinary Elections to be held on 6th December 2008 is: 17th NOVEMBER 2008.

The plebiscite is not subject to the provisions of the Government of Alderney Law/the States of Alderney Election Procedure Ordinance but the last date on which I will add any person"s name to the register to be used in the plebiscite (for Alderney Representatives in the Guernsey States of Deliberations) to be held on 13th December 2008 is:

28th NOVEMBER 2008 , being the last working day before the list of States Members who wish to be candidates is published.

Please also note that the effect of section 33(1) of the Government of Alderney Law is that if your name is not added to the register by 31st December 2008 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VOTE AT ANY ELECTION HELD ON OR BEFORE 15th OCTOBER 2009.

PLEASE ACT NOW AND ENSURE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE.
