Forget the World Cup – here in Alderney all that matters – after 85 years, is to get back the much coveted Muratti Vase from the competition – Guernsey or Jersey. The last time Alderney held the cup – donated by Alderney in the first place – was back in1920.
And the first step towards lifting the Vase will be on 12 March when Alderney will play at home in the semi-final against Guernsey. The winner goes on to play Jersey and the winning team emerging from this final match lifts the Muratti Vase. Here in Alderney, everybody hopes the Vase comes home with “The Blues”, as the Ridunian team is affectionately known.
